Overview

Springtime, 1905. With Peter Golightly away at teacher's college, Mabel is keeping herself busy. While she waits for her book to be published, her time is spent working part time at the post office, tutoring two perfectly rambunctious boys and trying to overcome her writers block. Things take a turn, however, when Peter comes home for the summer holidays. Mabel is forced to question how strong their relationship is, and what she's willing to give up in order to begin her new life. A mixture of heart-wrenching happenstance, joyous occasions and humorous moments occur, causing Mabel to change in ways she never expected. An Annafield Girl is the climax to the lives of Mabel and Peter, with a more serious, yet just as optimistic tone of its predecessor, reflecting the realities of young people entering adult life. As the sequel to The Fields by my House, readers once again get to visit the Edwardian world of Annafield, Ontario, and be swept away by the romance and the humour of Mabel Fairchild's life.
